Good Monday, everyone! Turkey Day is upon us! LOL Well, it’s this week. Thanksgiving is a day Americans have set aside to show their gratitude for all they have. It is based on the Pilgrims’ travels to this new country, back in the 1600′s. Seeking religious freedom, these folks were an integral part of the growth of this country. As legend would have it, after braving the trip across the Atlantic and exploring this new land, they built a settlement and set up a working community. The Indians were supposed to have assisted the new comers, showing them what crops would grow and how, seeing them through to harvest time. At that point, both Pilgrims and Indians pulled their resources together and hosted one doozie of a feast! Supposedly, it lasted for several days! The Pilgrim’s gratitude and sharing of their ‘wealth’ set the stage for a yearly celebration, Thanksgiving.
At least, that is what the majority of Americans do to celebrate. I’m not so sure what will happen with this little family. It is so broken. I had high hopes, but, it isn’t looking too promising. I don’t know. Maybe the spirit of the day will touch on my family and something will change. Maybe.
Anyhow, have you heard of Joseph Cornell? I hadn’t either until I stumbled upon something about him last week. Joseph was a collector. Like so many, including myself, he collected little tidbits and souvenirs such as theater tickets, photos, music and literature. He then turned his finds into collages, arranging them into little boxes for display. Thus, the modern collage was born.
On the Joseph Cornell website, one is encouraged to try ones hand at this art form. There are several downloads of various elements. I right-clicked and saved on the ‘box’ that is on the Enter page and it downloaded nicely – and empty. Taking the box and the collage sheets over to Photoshop, I tried my hand at this. It was kind of fun!
Mind you, I didn’t go into much detail or anything. I just wanted to play around. This will give you an idea of what to expect. Head on over to Joseph Cornell’s site and have some fun!
I also want to share something else with ya’ll before Turkey Day. I found some cool ‘menu headpieces’ at DesignTNT and saw the possibilities.
Wouldn’t these be great on a layout for Thanksgiving dinner? Go get you some! Click on the image and you’ll be directed to the download article. Be sure to comment!
Alrighty, then! Here are two more ‘Parts’ to “Pass the Stuffing, Please”, the new kit from Miss Edna and I. Last week you got he QP’s, or the first two parts.
